Please welcome Aviapin Edition 7, made from Boeing 737-800 D-ABKA, formerly of Tui Airways! The 737-800 is the most successful ever variant of the 737 family, itself the most successful jet in the Boeing family. Aviapin has been able to preserve a small part of this jet and you can now take a memento from it with you wherever you go, in a choice of three colours.
For this edition, there are three colours and three different engraving options to choose from. Pin badges are available in white, light blue and dark blue, the colours seen on their aircraft’s fuselage. Please note – the colours seen on the pin badges are the original aircraft paint, and these items have not been repainted. The three engraving options are “737”, “738” (the shorthand for the 737-800 series), or “KA” (the last two letters of the aircraft’s registration code, and a shorthand name for this particular aircraft). The pin badges are approximately 20mm in diameter, and each pin badge is mounted on a special backing card featuring and illustration of the aircraft and details about the airframe. In a first for Aviapin, we are also including a postcard version of backing card artwork with each pin.
Also available are special triple packs featuring all three colours available in this edition, in and all “737” pack, or in a pack featuring one each of the engraving options (selected at random – please get in touch if you would like to specify the colour/engraving combinations).
Delivered to Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines in 1999, “KA” wore the registration TC-APG while serving a number of different carriers. The aircraft flew stints with Air Algerie and Myanmar Airways International, returning to Pegasus between each. Then, in 2007, TC-APG became D-ABKA and joined Air Berlin, and had winglets retrofitted during it’s time with the airline. Finally, “KA” moved to TUI, where it served out the rest of its career in the distinctive blue and white livery seen on these pin badges. Finally, D-ABKA left the TUI fleet and made a final flight to St Athan, South Wales, were it was dismantled in 2020.
Please note that due to the active life of the fuselage skin from which these pieces are made, there can be some variation in colour and finish. Some have scratches on the paintwork, but these are not faults; they are evidence of the millions of miles flown by this aircraft through freezing rain and baking sun.
