ULTRA-RARE c.1850

The artwork is unsigned, but my research indicates that this extremely rare mezzotint-engraving is by Thomas Doney, c.1850, after a painting by Gilbert Charles Stuart, printed by Powell & Co.
The engraving is printed directly to the mat board, which is elaborately embossed, and bears the name \"J.L. Baldwin, Newark, NJ\" at the top.
The oval is 6\" x 8\" in visible mat board 11\" x 13\", and it is all mounted in its original 19th-century mahogany veneered frame, 17\" x 19\", with gold-leaf inner border. The mounting has been professionally refreshed within the past few years.

- Beautiful antique condition, from a non-smoking environment.
- The embossed mat is slightly protruding within the frame at the top edge (see photo). This can be easily corrected.
- The frame has age chipping and scuffs, and some separation at the joints.
The above is my good-faith attempt to disclose all noteworthy issues. Keep in mind that vintage/antique items always show their age. (Don\'t we all!?) It would be impossible to mention every tiny detail, so please expect that there will be something about this item (or lot) that\'s not perfect and may need touch-up.
