Over the last decade, the Marvel Universe has experienced a veritable VENOM Revival, with four different ongoing main title series to-date as well as a plethora of secondary series, limited series, Carnage series, Spin-off symbiote series, Venom-verse series, and Venom-helmed line-wide events -- and that's not including two major motion picture releases and a cameo crossover inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
And while Todd McFarlane most definitely put Venom on the proverbial map in the first place way back in the unforgettable and forever classic Amazing Spider-Man #300, it was Venom's second attempt at an ongoing series launched in the late Spring of 2011 by the creative team of Rick Remender and Tony Moore that effectively put Venom back on the map and which set thesymbioteon his way to newfound popularity.
The series also served to catapult the career of Remender, its writer, to newfound heights, while its penciler and primary cover artist, TONY MOORE, cemented the series' credentials. Moore was already a notable industry star and had been for nearly a decade as one of the two co-creators of the ultra-popular The Walking Dead from Image Comics. His style was unmistakable and his insight was keen, both of which came to bear in his cover art for the new series' second issue, Moore's own homage to McFarlane's cover art of the issue which featured Venom's historic First Appearance. The cover, featuring the new gun-toting AGENT VENOM (Flash Thompson bonded with the alien symbiote) instead of McFarlane's black-costumed (or symbiote suited)Spider-Ma, is a prime example of Moore's prescience for what lay ahead for the character under his charge.
