Description: This spiral air-twist form was developed about 1735 and was popular throughout the 18th century. Each glass was individually created by only the most skilled craftsmen able to form the graceful air-twist spiral pattern in the stem. The glasses are made by a wire introduced into the molten stem to form a channel. Several channels are successively formed and then combined and twisted into a graceful spiral by the use of wooden paddles and other special tools.
