MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAYPATROL YEARBOOK 1973 Fascinating view of theMississippi Highway Patrol ( intermittently called the “ Mississippi HighwaySafety Patrol” ), this Yearbook from 50 years ago. Lots of historic photos from earlier years,some of them going back to the inauguration of the Patrol in 1938 includingphotos of Colonel Birdsong who was frequently seconded to other start-up StatePolice and Highway Patrols of the 1930s. Interesting book from manyperspectives: the history of state law enforcement; history of the State ofMississippi; and even the march of Civil Rights in the South. Compare photos of the two Black Patrolmen andthe one Black member of the 1973 Recruit Class No. 13 ( there are photos of afew Black janitors and clerks), with the current 2023 command staff of the MHP. A world of difference but only appreciated ifyou can compare with this bountiful pictorial history. Mint condition.
