We are offering a postcard of W. & L. E. Gurley Civil Engineers & Surveyors, Troy, New York, dated Nov. 4th, 1876, with Troy, NY postmark and 1 cent postage stamp printed on the card. Postcard is to D. E. Whiton, West Stafford, Connecticut stating they had ordered a chuck from them several days before and had not received it. [D. E. Whiton Machine Co. were the dominant manufacturers of the lathe and milling machine chuck, which was an important device in a lathe machine used for holding and rotating a piece of work while performing a lathe operation.]
