The absolute biggest motherlode of mid century barkcloth curtains on ! 48 feet of Fabric (measured across the bottom) at 83 inches in height!
These come out of a very unusual time-capsule home in the “Pill Hill” district of Albuquerque, New Mexico, home to many famous mid century homes of doctors, surgeons, and pharmaceutical executives that made their fortunes in the medical field.
Measured across the bottom, the two panels together are 48 feet of fabric. (shorter on the top, because of the pleats.) The fabric has some fading on the very edges (adding up to a few inches total on the ends of the two panels), but the backing fabric has absorbed almost all the sun and kept these drapes bright and vibrant and pliable. If you took these to a seamstress to have the pleats removed, and the backing material removed, you would have wonderful condition authentic barkcloth curtains that are still vibrant and unmistakably period-authentic true mid century in all their glory.
While they are not soiled at all- the home was both smoke free and pet free due to the wife’s allergies- I would suggest having them dry cleaned after the seamstress does his or her work, just to prolong their life and remove any dust that may be embedded in the thick cloth.
There is enough fabric here to do amazing things, if you have the vision. To find this much amazing MCM curtain fabric, in this wonderful tall height, is an opportunity that is exceedingly rare to find.
They are genuine vintage and the top fabric where the pleats are have small pin holes from the original hooks, but will not be visible once the backing is removed or replaced.
