A Swiss Army Knife with the Climber tool configuration, or very similar, was available for a long time before descriptive names were used. Early vintage versions have a clip-point small blade.This model has been known as theBackpackerin some regions and was marketed in the US as thePresident.
In1961the originaltriangular awlwas redesigned and given asharpened edge,making it more suitable for use as a reamer. The sewing-eye was added to the reamer in1985.
Theshacklewas introduced in1902,was typically made of brass and featured,usually as an option, on many Victorinox models up until about1969, when it was replaced with the spilt-ringattachment method.
