Depicted here a view of a a street scene and typical café in Montmarte, the quarter of Paris made famous by artists and bohemians. It was here that some of the greatest artists of the early 20th century had their studios and created their masterworks ( Salvador Dalí, Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, Camille Pissarro, Vincent van Gogh and others). T he Basilica Sacré Coeur, a Roman Catholic church on the "Butte Montmartre", Paris' highest hill, is depicted in the background .Signed in plate: "ON Montmartre"Printed in DenmarkArtist: Otto Nielsen (1916-2000) Nielsen was a Danish was a watercolor painter who produced many posters for SAS. In the 1960's Otto Nielsen promoted the romance and excitement of faraway lands with a series in his distinct style. He also wrote and illustrated many books,including travel books. In 1973 and 1993 he made posters for the Tivoli Gardens. Otto Nielsen's artwork has been exhibited in many museums.
