RARE 1930s TWA METAL MODEL AIRPLANE LAMP - DOUGLAS DC-2 - 24" WINGSPAN:
$4,450

Here is a vintage 1930s Douglas DC-2 cast metal model airplane lamp in very nice working condition. From the estate of a former TWA employee, this lamp has a 24" wingspan and is 17" long and stands about 18" tall at level flight. The base has a ball and socket joint to allow you to display the airplane at any pitch or angle and the TWA graphics and numbers have been hand painted on the airplane. The only drawbacks I see are some paint wear, the propellers were replaced at some point with plexiglass discs and when someone rewired the lamp the new cord does not have an off/on switch in it. So to turn the lamp on you plug it in, to turn it off you unplug it. Please see the photos for a better idea of what you are getting. The last photograph is from Page 156 of the book "On Miniature Wings". It features airplane models from the Smithsonian Institute's National Air and Space Museum.
