Historic First Flights of Pan American Clippers prints by John T. McCoy:
$10,000

I bought these prints from the Pan Am office in Collins Street Melbourne in the late 1970's. Since then the prints have remained in the accompanying crimson folder, pic 1, occasionally seeing the light of day but certainly never framed or hung. All pictures and the contents sheet, headed "Historic First Flights of Pan American Clippers", pic 2, are in excellent, as new condition.
It can be seen in the pictures above that the edge to edge measurement is 51 cm long and 41 cm high. Inside that is a 25 mm off white border - from the outside edge of the border to the opposite off white edge the dimensions are 46 cm long x 35.5 cm height. The actual colour picture dimensions are 41.1 cm long x 29.5 cm height.
They have been stored flat, in a wardrobe and away from any weather effects.
The pictures are of course prints from the original paintings by artist John T. McCoy and used by Pan Am as promotional pictures. The pictures are of:
  • Fokker F-7 inaugurating the commercial passenger service from Key West to Havana in Jan 1916, pic 3.
  • Sikorsky S-38 flown by COL Charles Lindbergh arriving at Cristobal from Miami in Feb 1929, pic 4.
  • Sikorsky S-42 arriving at Rio De Janeiro in Aug 1934, pic 5.
  • Martin M-130 flying boat arriving in Hong Kong in Oct 1936, pic 6.
  • Boeing B-314 landing at Lisbon in Jun 1939, pic 7.
  • Douglas DC-4 on the ground at Leopoldville in Jan 1946, pic 8.
  • Lockheed Constellation L-749 about to land at San Francisco in Jun 1947, pic 9.
  • Boeing B-377 Stratocruiser arriving at McMurdo Sound Oct 1957, pic 10.
  • Boeing B707 departs New York Oct 1958, pic 11, and
  • Boeing B747 landing at London Jan 1970.
I have always liked aeroplanes and intended to have the pictures framed and hung but never got around to it, then I never had a man cave. Consequently I still have the flat cardboard box with the Pan American label attached, addressed to myself in which the crimson folder and the pictures have remained.
I have noted individual pictures for sale on etc for USD 700, but never the complete as new set of 10 plus the folder and the picture details sheet.
Prior to payment.
In terms of postage I would think that large round postage tube maybe the best option. As mentioned above I do have the original flat cardboard box that everything came in - a couple of metres of 100 mile an hour tape wrapped around the box should keep everything intact. I will put some additional cardboard around the folder to help keep it safe whilst in transit to you. Please advise if you want the parcel to go registered and in what packaging - round or flat.
