This commemorative glass stands approx 7 inches tall and 2.5 inches at the mouth. It is in excellent shape with no chips or cracks. McDonnell Douglas issued a vintage commemorative glass in 1970 to commemorate the maiden flight of its new DC-10 wide body airliner. The glasses are frosted and feature gold detailing with the names of several airlines, including KLM, United, UTA, TIA, SAS, Swissair, and American. The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 first flew on August 29, 1970, after an extensive flight test program of 929 flights covering 1,551 hours. The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) issued the DC-10's type certificate on July 29, 1971, and it entered commercial service with American Airlines on August 5, 1971, on a round trip flight between Los Angeles and Chicago. United Airlines began DC-10 service on August 16, 1971.
