In 1984 Continental had 10,000 employees, flew to 70 cities, and recorded $50.3 million in profits, on its 50th anniversary. The airline acquired Eastern Airlines, absorbed Peoples Express, Frontier, and New York Air while becoming the largest airline group in the Western world. This booklet takes the story from four men piloting two airplanes to the 35,000 employees, 1,500 daily departures, 335 aircraft, 109 domestic and 32 international cities the airline grew to.
It tells you all about Continental from the beginning. Showcasing the "First Fifty Years" and it is very well done.This rare presentation has several chapters documenting the rise of Continental when it started in 1934 as Varney Speed Lines with four men piloting two airplanes. The presentation consists of 9 "chapters" starting with "The First Fifty Years", "First Class", "Business Class", "International Service", "The International Operation", "Transatlantic", "Pacific", "Mexico", and "One pass and Presidents Club".Each chapter is very we done, and includes highlights of the operation that comprised over 35,000 employees, 335 aircraft, and 1,550 departures. The airline served 109 domestic and 32 international cities. These were the facts in 1987 when this was distributed.
