The 727Jet Lounge is composed of two Boeing727 emergency exit doors. By the time these jets are decommissioned an average11,000 passengers have traveled by each one of the windows.
The aim of the 727 Jet Lounge is not only to save a few pounds ofaluminum from an energy intense recycling process. The greater goal is to use abeautiful piece of engineering in its original state; to take advantage of itsmorphology, of its strength and of its history.
So many people have looked at the cloudsand dreamed through these windows. Would it not be a shame to turn all theparticles of dreams imprinted on these windows into raw industrial material?
The shape of the doors remains the same;the aluminum is polished to reveal every single construction detail. Steel legsare attached to the existing safety brackets on the doors. The doors arepositioned so that the curve is soft and continuous. The upper section isupholstered with sexy faux fur. The contrast between the warmth of the fur andthe cool aluminum is striking.
The human body rests in a sinuous reclinedposition. The goal of this piece is to accommodate the user in a totallyrelaxed mood. The Jet Lounge invites you to watch TV, to have a conversation, use your computer or read abook. Or better yet, it invites you to close your eyes, to look inside, to fly through yourinterior universe.
