Original American Railway Express wood sign, 10.5" x 70". Great condition.(comes in 2 pieces) The American Railway Express Agency (AREA) was a national monopoly set up by the United States federal government in 1918 at the start of WWI. Rail express services provided small package and parcel transportation using the extant railroad infrastructure much as UPS functions today using the road system.

This sign remained up from 1918 until it was removed during the disassembly of the Train Depot 50 years ago and has been in private ownership since then.
