Historic America's Cup Sailing Treasures from Saturday's Toys presents... a rarely seen folio with zipper and embroidered patch from the 1983 America's Cup as held September 14-26, 1983 at Newport, Rhode Island.
As the PGA Tour had arrived for the Bank of Boston Classic (Pleasant Valley Country Club; Sutton, Massachusetts) from September 8 - 11, 1983... several of the golfer's families made a quick trip to Newport to witness one of the biggest sporting events of that decade. The sailing competition was between America's entry, the New York Yacht Club (The Liberty; with skipper Dennis Connor), and Australia's entry, the Royal Perth Yacht Club (Australia II; with skipper John Bertrand). By the end of the competition, Australia had won the event 4-3; successfully breaking the longest winning streak in US sporting history: 132 years; effectively re-igniting America's passion to win the next America's Cup in 1987 as the American entry (San Diego Yacht Club) crushed the Australian entry 4-0, thereby returning the trophy to the USA.

Features red zipper by ROBIN; with red vinyl piping trim surrounding outside edges of navy blue folio. Includes red, white and blue embroidered patch at front and center.
These bags were exclusively issued to participants in the Bank of Boston Golf Classic in 1983.
Measures approx. 12" x 15"; minimal use since 1983. Patch is sewn in place; measures 1 7/8" x 3". Perfectly preserved within a private Napa Valley family estate for the past four decades.
