In 40 miles per hour winds, the snowplough team set to work by digging out the engine by hand and thawing it out with burning rags soaked in paraffin. This laborious process takes five days to complete and demonstrates the dedication of the snowplough team.MEN OF THE FOOTPLATE (1930\'s)This film is dedicated to all those men whose work involves the engine footplate and to those men who train the engine drivers.
It follows the career progression of an engine driver on the LMS - from cleaner to fireman, and from past fireman to fully fledged driver. With practical expensive gained from daily work supported by lessons in theory, the railways employ a rigorous long-term training schedule to ensure that only the best men become LMS engine drivers.UNDER THE RIVER (1959)Made in 1959, this film tells the story of how the Great Western Railway tunnelled under the River Severn. The film was shot just before the famous beam engines, used to pump water out of the tunnel, were retired. Their subsequent destruction along with Euston\'s Gothic Arch were to spark off public awareness in industrial archaeology.\"This video has been tested and is in very good condition.
