X-15 AIRCRAFT ENGINE, XLR-99 ROCKET MOTOR, AVIATION HISTORY, SPACE HISTORY:
$165000.00

I am offering my XLR-99 rocket engine from the X-15 aircraft program. The photos are of the actual engine and the stand that it is mounted on is included in the sale.

Also included is a copy of the 250+ page XLR-99Operations Manual.

Another XLR-99 was sold for $180,000.00 in a Regency Superior sale back in 2013. That was $150,000.00 sale price plus 20% buyers premium for a total price to the buyer of $180,000.00. An image of the sale catalog is in the photos and you may see on the web few XLR-99 engine were produced and this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity to own one.

Following is the Regency Superior sale description which I believe is also accurate for my engine.

Outstanding XLR-99 restartable liquid propellant rocket engine for use in the North American X-15 experimental aircraft, flown by such men as Neil Armstrong, Scott Crossfield and Joe Engle. Developed by the Reaction Motors Division of Thiokol for North American, it was the first large man-rated rocket engine that could be throttled and with restart ability, and could deliver 57,000 pounds of thrust. Using this engine, the X-15 set many speed and altitude records in the 1960s. The propellants for the XLR99 were liquid oxygen and anhydrous ammonia, fed into the engine by turbine pumps at a flow rate of more than 10,000 pounds per minute. This engine measures 5 feet in overall length with an end exhaust diameter of 30\", and weighs approximately 500 pounds. Probably the only one in private hands. During the X-15 program, 13 different flights by eight pilots met the USAF spaceflight criterion by exceeding the altitude of 50 miles thus qualifying the pilots for astronaut status. A remarkable and historical rocket engine that may never come on the market again. Probably cost the government a few million dollars when purchased new from Thiokol.
