TheMcDonnell Douglas KC-10 Extenderisan American aerial refueling tanker aircraft operated by theUnited States Air Force(USAF).A military version of the three-engineDC-10airliner, theKC-10 was developed from theAdvanced Tanker Cargo Aircraft Program.It incorporates military-specific equipmentfor its primary roles of transport andaerial refueling. It was developed to supplement theKC-135 Stratotankerfollowingexperiences inSoutheast AsiaandtheMiddle East. The KC-10 was the second McDonnell Douglastransport aircraft to be selected by the Air Force following theC-9. A total of 60 KC-10swere produced for the USAF.
