SAFEWAY AIRLINES FORD Tri Motor 5-AT AIRPLANE Historical Archives VINTAGE PHOTO:
$12.99

8\" x 10\" Historical archive photo of the Ford Tri Motor 5-AT airplane.

Charles A. Lindbergh\'s 1927 trans-Atlantic flight created enormous public interest in air travel. One of the airlines formed during the boom period of the late 1920s and early 1930s was Southwest Air Fast Express of Tulsa, better known as S.A.F.E.way Airlines. S.A.F.E.way was the brainchild of Erle P. Halliburton. With Oklahoma oilmen as stockholders, S.A.F.E.way began Ford Tri-Motor service between St. Louis and Dallas in April 1929. In June service was expanded to include Los Angeles and New York City.

Although S.A.F.E.way Airlines existed for little more than a year, it established the concept of profitable passenger operations. It is certain that the S.A.F.E.way experiment influenced other airlines, with a resulting emphasis on the future of passenger air travel.

This is a rare photograph from the Ford Archives, Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn Michigan. Numbered 53405 It is not the original 1929 picture as it doesn\'t look 88 years old.

About Photographs:

We acquired a large collection of vintage photographs from the estate of a former pilot and avid collector of avaiation photographs. Most of the photographs are stamped, for example: Airforce photo, Boeing company, or press photo. The back side of all photos are featured in every listing. In the cases where no photo credit is marked on the back, we will make note of it in the listing description.

Photos are handled with great care. They have been calatoged and filed using acid free paper. Photos range from the 1930’s to the 70’s becasue of their age and handling of other parties prior to my ownership the condition will vary greatly. There may be creases or bends or corner wear, please examine the photo scan. Were always happy to answer questions if you have them.

The items being sold are vintage photographs not reproductions. A digital watermark has been added to the scanned photo. The photo you receive will not have the words “dominolio” on them. There is no transfer of copyright for republication or reproduction with these photographs when you purchase them, and only photographs taken before 1923 are currently automatically in the public domain. Permission from the copyright holder, which usually can be identified from the back of each photo, must be sought to republish or reproduce the image for any purpose.

Im not an expert in avaiation history. I am relying on information provided by the sources printed on the back of the photographs.
