Rare "1926" Two Becky Thatcher Paddle Boat Menus - Sunk Riverboat Ship Storm
The menus are each a four-page black-padded menu, measuring approximately 8.5 inches x 11.5 inches.This listing includes two menus from the paddle boat Becky Thatcher. The restaurant inside was titled "1926" after the year the ship was built. The creation of this particular restaurant inside the boat was done with renovations in 2004, so that is likely the age of these menus. So, the age of the boat was 78 years old by that point when the "1926" restaurant, and these menus, were created inside it.
Out of the two menus, one is for lunch and the other is for dinner. The lunch menu has a page detailing the history of the Becky Thatcher, which is a fascinating read.
During severe weather conditions, the Becky Thatcher sank during the weekend of February 20-21, 2010. Her decks collapsed and the venerable vessel declared a total loss, the firm of Delta Demolition was contracted to remove the wreckage from the river. Heartbreaking images were published in newspapers and on web sites showing a clamshell and scoop removing huge pieces of the superstructure and dumping them on shore. The Becky had finally come to the end of a long and illustrious career spanning nearly 85 years.
There is now a new Becky Thatcher riverboat currently operating, which has no relation to the 1926-created Becky Thatcher, other than the same name and a somewhat similar styled look. There have been several Becky Thatcher riverboats over the years, as boat names cannot be copyrighted.
One menu has scuffing on the cover, but other than that, both are in good condition for its age.
