This cylinder was sent from Valentine & Company in Brooklyn, New York, one of the largest paint, varnish, and color manufacturers in the United States at that time. It was used to ship a paint sample in the mail to 441 South 20th Street in Decatur, Illinois. The cylinder has a 10 cent stamp on it featuring United States President James Monroe. The stamp is stamped BROOKLYN, N.Y.
This cylinder measures 6 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide, 2.5 inches deep, and weighs 3 ounces by itself.
