THESE TWO CONSECUTIVELY DATED U.S. NAVY AVIATOR FLIGHT LOG BOOKS FROM MAY 30,1918 to JUNE 7,1929 WERE ONCE USED BY U.S. NAVY AVIATION AIRSHIP CREWMEMBER (SURVIVOR)JAMES H. COLLIER (b.1893 - d.1973)ZR-1 USS SHENANDOAHAVIATION CHIEF RIGGER (ACR). THEY ALSO DESCRIBE HIS SERVICE IN U.S. NAVY AIRSHIPSSTARTING IN KEY WEST FLORIDA DURING WW1,THEN TO HOWDEN, ENGLAND THROUGH TO HIS TIME ON THE ZR-1 RIGID AIRSHIP USS SHENANDOAH.THEN CONTINUES ON TO THE SHENANDOAH'S CRASH AS AN ENTRY IN THE LOG BOOK SIGNED BY AIRSHIP COMMANDERCHARLES E. ROSENDAHL AT THE TIME. IT THEN CONTINUES ONTO JUNE 7,1929 IN LAKEHURST NAVAL AIR STATION IN NEW JERSEY U.S.A.THIS RECORD SHOWS COLLIER ALSO SERVED ON THE BRITISH AIRSHIPS, R-32, (ZR-2 & R-38 ARE THE SAME SHIP),R-80.THEN HE SERVED ON THE GERMAN BUILT U.S. NAVY ZR-3 USS LOS ANGELES. THESE ARE TRULY HISTORIC LOG BOOKS THAT ARE UNIQUE AND COULD EASILY BE THE CENTERPIECE OF ANY AIRSHIP/AVIATION COLLECTION. EACH LOG BOOK WAS MOST LIKELY CARRIED WITH HIM ON ALL THE RIGID AIRSHIPS HE FLEW ON INCLUDING THE CRASH OF THEZR-1 USS SHENANDOAH.

CONDITIONS OF THE LOG BOOKS ARE FINE THROUGHOUT WITH SOME LIGHT WEAR THAT ISCONSISTENT WITH ITS AGEAND USE. NO PAGES MISSING. NO BOOK PLATES. NO TEARS. BINDINGS ARE STRONG. VERY NICE THROUGHOUT ON BOTH.
* ZR-1USS Shenandoahwas the first of four United States Navy rigid airships. It was constructed during 1922–23 at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey. It developed the U.S. Navy's experience with rigid airships, and made the first cross country flight by airship.On the 57th flight, ZR-1 USS Shenandoah was destroyed in asquall lineover Ohio in September 1925.Fourteen crew members, including Commander Zachary Lansdowne, were killed.
