FYI: In the late 1980s Sitmar Cruises had two 70,000grt ships on order from Fincantieri in Italy
when the company was taken over by P&O/Princess.
These were completed as Crown Princess (1990) and Regal Princess (1991).
A revolutionary new ship design created by renowned architect Renzo Piano,
according to Piano, he created the lines of the ship to resemble a dolphin moving through the water.
"The Dome," situated forward at the top of the ships, accommodates several distinct areas under one roof,
including a casino, dance floor, centralized bar and observation area.
The Dome is 19 feet high in the center and measures an impressive 13,000 square feet.
The observation area is separated from the rest of the room by a glass partition.
Crown Princess was transferred to German sister company Seetours/Aida in 2002 and renamed A’Rosa Blue.
Prior to her transfer she was refitted as a club ship (Club Med-type vacations),
she sports "eye catching" artwork along the sides of her hull.
Regal Princess originally christened by Margaret Thatcher in 1991, has been transferred to sister line P&O Australia,
officially ending its 16-year tenure with Princess Cruises.
The ship was renamed Pacific Dawn in Sydney Harbor on November 8, 2007 in a ceremony
led by Olympic gold medallist Cathy Freeman, who served as godmother.
