FLORENCE KLINGENSMITH UNPUBLISHED PHOTOGRAPHS HAND-SIGNED UNIQUE w. PROVENANCE:
$300

Here is a unique lot of items of female aviator Florence Klingensmith.
The lot features a personal, private, 8" x 10" sepia-tone portrait photo of Klingensmith, a signed and inscribed 8" x 10" group shot of Klingensmith with photographer (Jack Clifford) and his assistant, as well as a copy of an article on Klingensmith that appeared in the International Women's Air & Space Museumnewsletter in 1993. The museum is located in Cleveland, Ohio, which is probably why she did a private sitting for local photographer Jack Clifford. The website for the museum is iwasm.org
Florence Gunderson Klingensmith(3 September 1904 – 4 September 1933) was an American aviator of theGolden AgeofAir Racing. She was also a founding member of theNinety-Nines, a women's pilot group. She was one of the first women to participate in air races with men. She died in an accident during the Frank Phillips Trophy Race at the 1933International Air RacesinChicago, Illinois
These private, unpublished photos are part of an overall personal collection of photographer, Jack Clifford in Ohio;a professional photographer of local prominence who received recognition andcoverage for a career in photographing local politicians, notable personalities, celebrities, as well as 8 U.S. Presidents. This is a rare and unique item.
The photo of Klingensmith with Jack Clifford is personally inscribed and signed by Klingensmith and says:
Best WishesSincerelyFlorence E. KlingensmithN.A.R 1932 (dates the photo to just a year before she crashed and died during a race)
Additionally, the 13" x 10" mat the photo is affixed to (which can be removed, if desired) is signed by Jack Clifford.
Please note the last TWO photos in the listing; one of the storefront of Jack Clifford's studio, as well as a newspaper article on Mr. Clifford that appeared in the Cleveland Plain Dealer in 1956.
This is just one of many original portrait photographs in the overall collection I have been asked by a friend to sell. Jack Clifford was her dad's grandfather.
This is a very rare collectible for aviator fans.:-)
offer/buy with total confidence based on my 100% score, exemplary response, as well as reputation for excellent packing and SAME-DAY shipping in most cases.
Check my other listings for other original photographs, most signed and/or inscribed, including portrait photographs of 8 U.S. Presidents, as well as Curtis LeMay, Gutzon Borglum, Tom Mix, "Wrong Way" Corrigan, and many more.
Thanks for looking and please contact me with any questions. :-)
