The Boeing 727-200 is the stretched version of the 727-100. The '200 is 20 feet longer that the '100. The first 727-200 flew on July 27th, 1967. The first delivery was to Northeast Airlines. As the aircraft evolved, a series of higher gross weights and more powerful engines were introduced along with other improvements. These 727-200's were dubbed "Adv" or advanced. The first "advanced" version was delivered in mid-1972. A total of 935 wereproduced.
Delta Airlines is one of the major airlines of the United States. It is one of the oldest airlines being, founded on 02 March 1925. Delta is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. After the merger with Northwest Airlines, Delta became the world's second largest airline. The airline with it's subsidiaries, the has over 875 aircraft. Delta had 183 Boeing 727-200's in service from 1972 to 2003. They were eventually replaced with Boeing 737's, 757's and McDonnell Douglas MD-90's.
Delta Shuttle is the brand name for Delta Airlines air shuttle service in the Northeastern United States. It began operations on 01 September 1991. The service is marketed primarly toward business travelers commuting between the Northeast's business centers in New York, Boston, Washington, DC and Chicago. As a premium service, Delta Shuttle affords all passengers amenities such as complimentary premium snacks, beer, wine, spirits, and expedited check-in. It also provides newspapers, magazines, coffee and juice in the gate waiting areas.
This aircaft with registration N480DA, had its maiden flight on 07 May 1974. It was delivered to Delta on 16 May 1974. It flew with Delta Shuttle beginning in 1991 through the early 2000's when the 727's were replaced with Boeing 737-800's. This aircraft was ultimately scrapped (how very sad).
This Flight Miniatures 1:200 scale reproduction of the Delta Shuttle's Boeing 727-232 is an excellent example of Delta's 727. It is a solid resin model that requires only minimal assembly, and comes with a display stand. It has razor sharp colors from the 1990's and early 2000's.
