Motorcycle Champion Clem Murdaughfor Camels Cigarettes 1948This is a wonderful advertisement featuring a motorcycling comic strip of Clem Murdaugh, 1946-47 National Hill-Climbing Champion, in action, and then endorsing Camel Cigarettes. Murdaugh is a member of the AMA Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame. The ad measures 10 x 14 inches in size. It appeared as the back cover of a magazine and shows moderate wear, but is still in good and attractive overall condition. It carries the headline:WORLD\'S ROUGHEST RIDE!Dialogue from the strip includes Murdaugh saying “Wheel her out! I\'ll show them some fancy slant shooting this time!” and a spectator exclaiming, “Murdaugh\'s giving her the gun — He\'s in trouble! He can\'t steer!” (A footnote explains that “Slant shooting” is motorcycle slang for hill climbing.) Murdaugh promotes cigarette smoking by saying, “Experience is the Best Teacher in motorcycling — and in choosing a cigarette, too! . . . Through the years, I\'ve tried all brands. Camels are the choice of experience with me!\"_gsrx_vers_1426 (GS 9.0.3 (1426))
