On the morning of September 17, 1959, the North American Aviation X-15 research aircraft is dropped from it\'s Mothership NB-52Aand has ignited it\'s two XLR-11 rocket engines for the first time while in flight. The time is 08:08:48.0 hours and company test pilot Scott Crossfield is at the controls. One of the chase aircraft for this flight is a North American F-100F dual seat fighter, flown by Al White. The flight lasted a total of :09:11.1 minutes, speed 1,393 MPH,with the aircraft finishing it\'s flight touching down on the lakebed at Edwards Air Force Base, California.
