FOUGA CM 170 Magister SALE 33eme Escadre de Reconnaissance,
Strasbourg 1985
This is a repaint of the magnificent Fouga Magister by Andre
Chancel, Jean-Pierre Langer, Jean-Pierre Bourgeois, Benoit Dube
and Marc Hardouin which can be downloaded from http://restauravia.com
The aircraft is a true "must" for any FS addict and comes
complete with a thorough documentation both in French and in
English.
You have to create in FS9AircraftFougaMagisterTexture a
sub-folder named "texture.482_33-XF" (without the quotes). Copy
and paste in this new sub-folder all the files contained in
FS9FougaMagisterTexture exture.412
Next, you will have to extract all the "texture.482_33-XF*.bmp"
files from the present ZIP archive to
FS9AircraftFougaMagisterTexture ensuring that "Use folder names"
is ticked. Accept to overwrite when prompted, and everything
should go to the right place.
And, as usual, you have to copy and paste the text below in
FS9AircraftFougaMagisterSoloaircraft.cfg not forgetting to
replace "XX" in [fltsim.XX] by the next number in series in your
aircraft.cfg
[fltsim.XX]

repeat this procedure by copying and pasting the text below in

In case you intend to fly the aircraft from the back seat I
suggest you install my alternative 2D rear panel layout which is
included in this package. (See the relevant ReadMe.txt in
"fou2dpnl.zip" for details).
Wing tip tanks as shown on the accompanying photograph are of
the "large" (230 litre) variety. However, it is assumed that
this aircraft flew with the "small" (125 litre) tip tanks as
well.
The Fouga Magister's natural metal surfaces had a very shining
aspect. I have made my best to portray this as much as possible
yet trying to avoid the chrome-like effect found on so many
current repaints.
In fact, when you stepped into the cockpit after a few hours of
sun exposure the temperature could reach up to 50-55°C (120-130°
F) before engine start-up. Climbing into a Fouga in such
conditions under a generous Corsican sun in July or August was
quite a challenging experience, especially taking into account
the fact that we wore a flying suit, anti-fire underwear and a
leather flying jacket.
There was no air-conditioning system as such in that aircraft,
but only the possibility to taxy with the canopies slightly open
and, once airborne, a very small air bleeding tube which could
be kept open whilst flying below 10.000 ft to provide some
venting of the cabin. At higher altitudes you needed heating,
anyways.
I have even heard stories of one guy who had managed to fry an
egg on the upper wing surface of a Fouga. To be honest, I never
managed to do it myself!
Now, for those who like more shine I have added an alternative
set of textures featuring a more pronounced Alpha channel. These
textures appear in the "texture_SHINING.482_33-XF" subfolder,
and you can use them if you like to replace the four relevant
"texture.482_33-XF" bmp's.
Please be aware of one thing: if ever your computer takes fire
after installing this repaint, or if anything bad happens, I can
accept no liability whatsoever. So please use at your own risk
and feel free not to install if you have any doubt.
Comments and feedback will be most welcome.
